These Local Nonprofits Need Your Help

Many nonprofits organizations are unable to depend on volunteers at this time and are experiencing a shortage of resources as they continue to meet the needs of those they serve. From a simple hand-written note to basic goods to financial donations, these local nonprofits are asking for a little extra help to get through tough times.

Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids

Dwelling Place has several senior properties, an assisted living facility, and individuals who are particularly vulnerable to the COVID-19 Virus. Many essential self-care items are becoming difficult for these individuals to obtain, as they are urged to stay home to avoid coming into contact with the virus, and may be experiencing financial difficulty. Family Promise of Grand Rapids

The mission of Family Promise of Grand Rapids is to end homelessness, one family at a time, by engaging faith-based and community organizations to provide emergency shelter and basic needs to families with children who are homeless and to provide additional programs to assist them in finding housing and sustaining their independence.

The nonprofit reports an increase in need due to COVID-19 displacing families. While they have cancelled all volunteer opportunities, they are still in need of donations in order to help families survive this crisis. Click here to help.

Hispanic Center of West Michigan

Founded in 1978, the goal of the Hispanic Center is to provide unmet social services to the Hispanic Community in Greater West Michigan.

The Hispanic Center of West Michigan is looking for 5-10 volunteers a day to help distribute food from 11:30-1:30 at their distribution sites. Volunteers are needed to sort, load, and unload food donations as well as assist parking on Grandville Ave. Spanish speaking volunteers are very helpful when it comes to assisting the Hispanic community with both of the things listed above. Emmanuel Hospice

During this time of crisis, Emmanuel Hospice is looking for people to create and donate art and cards to give to their patients. As they are unable to see visitors at this time, patients are in need of something to lift their spirits and to put a smile on their face. If you or your children have some free time, these patients would greatly appreciate any handmade art/cards you send to them.

Emmanuel Hospice is also inviting you to create some virtual content and send it into the patients as well. Record you singing a song, dancing, even just spreading a positive message and send it in to spread some happiness to patients in need. Click here to help.

The Other Way Ministries is a Christian community development organization providing food assistance, early childhood education, family development, resource referral, and more. Right now, this organization is looking for item donations. They are in need of hand sanitizer, disinfectant spray of any kind, laundry soap, toilet paper, dish soap, diapers (sizes 4,5,6), liquid hand soap, toothpaste, eggs, tortillas, and tuna. You can drop these items off anytime between 9 am-3 pm, Monday-Friday.

Their mission is to invite residents and local institutions to act collectively to create a stronger, safer, more caring neighborhood where all people and gifts are welcome. This organization is in need of item donations. Their wish list includes: toilet paper, paper towels, liquid ibuprofen and 200 mg pills, large bottle of hand soap, hand sanitizer, disinfectant cleaners, thermometers, and they are also in need of used, working Chromebooks with cameras/webcams for students in need of education equipment. Boys & Girls Clubs provides diverse activities that meet the interests of all youth. Their Core Programs engage young people in activities with adults, peers, and family members that enable them to develop self-esteem and to reach their full potential. Based on physical, emotional, cultural, and social needs and interests of girls and boys, and recognizing developmental principles. This organization is working to provide a hot dinner and snack to their kids 5 days a week, but they need help in order to continue to do so. They are asking for financial donations as well as household goods, board games, puzzles, and/or other indoor activities for the kids and their families. Click here to help.

In The Image is a volunteer-run store supplying the community with clothes, furniture, and household items, free of charge, to those in need. In The Image is in need of laundered and clean clothing, personal hygiene products (unopened shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc), unopened cleaning supplies, basic necessities (toilet paper, hand sanitizer), and baby formula, diapers, and wipes.
