March 2, 2020 (Grand Rapids, MI) — After a successful 2019 inaugural season, Grand Rapids Women’s Golf Association announces the commencement of their second season, kicking off in April 2020.

GRWGA began in the fall of 2018, when three golf-enthusiast women decided to create an association to provide opportunities for women golfers to play more regularly, meet fellow lady golfers and enhance the game of golf. For the first season, founders Judy Kamis, Marcie Palmer and Sue Westphall expected to have 50 members. In May of 2019 GRWGA’s first season started with 125 members, far surpassing initial estimates. The association had 20 planned events playing in a variety of formats at various courses in the Grand Rapids Area. Events averaged 40 players on weekdays and 25 on weekends.  At the time of this release the association has 115 members for the 2020 season with new memberships arriving daily.  The 2020 season will feature twenty-seven events at premier courses around Greater Grand Rapids including, Boulder Creek, Alpine Golf Club, The Mines, Saskatoon Golf Club, Pilgrims Run, StoneWater C.C., Kaufman, Cedar Chase, The Links at Bowen Lake, Quail Ridge, The Falls at Barber Creek, The Meadows, Scott Lake, Thornapple Pointe, Candlestone, and Diamond Springs. A travel trip to Arcadia Bluffs, a Northern Michigan favorite and “bucket list” course, is planned for June 2020 and is already almost at full capacity.  In the 2020 season, members will also enjoy a variety of golf formats including; Flighted Match Play, Scrambles, Low Gross & Low Net, Best Ball, and more.

The GRWGA will also co-host The West Michigan Women’s Cup on August 12th at the Lynx Golf Course in Otsego. This “Solheim Cup” style event is in partnership with the Kalamazoo Women’s Golf Association (KWGA). This team event will feature competitive matches between the two groups and the association with the most points will take home a coveted travel trophy.  The vision is to begin what is intended to be a long history of friendly golf competition between the GRWGA and the KWGA.

Why Join the GRWGA? Members will have access to numerous organized events. Simply sign up, show up, and play golf – the rest is taken care of.

All members have access to a recreational handicap tracking software system to enter scores from GRWGA events as well as scores from other rounds outside their play in GRWGA events.  This system supplies members with detailed analysis on their golf game for continued improvement and helps event organizers flight players for events to make for an enjoyable golf experience.

Members enjoy discounted greens fees and the enjoyment of playing the game of golf while building lasting friendships with fellow members.
