From the beginning of pregnancy and postpartum, changing sizes, to breastfeeding wardrobes and lack of time, a new mom’s style can easily disappear. For many, it’s hard to regain equilibrium for countless years afterward. There’s something about putting yourself together on the outside that makes you feel like you’ve got a handle on this mom stuff.
While you’re celebrating Mother’s Day this month, take some time to take care of your style. If you’re having trouble finding the time, ask for help from a spouse, an assistant or co-worker, or hire someone to help at home.
Now that you’ve carved out some time for yourself, focus on planning ahead so you can save time on your daily routine. Approaching your wardrobe with organization and attention will save you tons of time, money and stress in the long run.
Get your closet into shape. Are you struggling to put together an outfit in the morning because you keep coming across items that don’t currently fit or are in the wrong season?
Organize your clothing by removing anything that you can’t wear today, whether because it’s missing a button or you can’t wear it until you purchase a white camisole.

Make your clothes wearable again. If something needs to be repaired or tailored, get it done. If you have a fabulous skirt and no top to wear with it, shop for one. Make your closet wearable before going out and buying more of what you don’t need.
Use technology to stay organized. Use your phone to snap photos of yourself in the mirror wearing outfits you love. When you’re running late or feeling uninspired, refer back to the photos. Keep a list on your phone of items missing from your closet (a strapless bra, shoes to wear with that yellow dress, etc.). Focus on filling these essential items, even when it may not feel as exciting as splurging on a new dress (and then still not having the right shoes for either dress).
Accept yourself right where you are. You don’t have to know all the steps required to create a confident personal image. Make an appointment with a stylist or your favorite boutique to get some advice on what works for you and your body. Follow through, take the next step and you’ll get there.
