We Are Listening
Jun 02, 2020 10:41AM ● By Elyse WildTo our black community members, we are listening.
We hear your voices, we hear your frustration, and we hear your pain.
Women’s LifeStyle magazine was created over 22 years ago to elevate the voices of women in Grand Rapids while educating, empowering, inspiring, and helping create change in the community.
The events over the past few weeks across the nation, and in our own city, has shown all of us that now is the time to come together to act on racial injustice and inequality in the United States.
To our allies, we urge you to educate yourself on the realities faced every day by Black Americans (We Are LIT).
We urge you to engage with institutions that are working to dismantle systems that were built on inequity (NAACP Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Urban League, Urban Core Collective, Equity PAC).
We urge you to engage with the vast portions of our community that have not enjoyed the influx of positive development others have (Grand Rapids Area Black Businesses).
We urge you to recognize the need for fair housing (Fair Housing Center of West Michigan).
We urge you to listen, speak up, speak out, and take action.
