Shop Small Saturday in the Center of GR

Rosemary Ellis from The Artist’s Studio, Jill Devan from Apothecary Off Main, and Courtney Hunt from Humanity Boutique are ready for #ShopSmallGR on November 26th.

“Small Business Saturday is one of our busiest days of the year,” declares Rosemary Ellis, owner of The Artist’s Studio at 40 Monroe Center. This amazing little nook inside MoDiv, on what is commonly referred to as the Monroe Mall, displays some of Rose’s pieces as well as works from other local artists. On any given day, passersby can watch Rose working on her newest creation through the windows, or meander through the nearby Apothecary Off Main, owned by fellow MoDiv tenant, Jill Devan. “It’s such a fun atmosphere. It’s humbling to be supported by so many shoppers that are proud to support their local businesses. The sense of pride in Grand Rapids is amazing,” Jill adds.

Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country. Founded by American Express in 2010, this day is celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This Saturday, Nov.26, join Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW), Avenue for the Arts, Monroe Center businesses and The Pop Up Shop GR in celebrating Small Business Saturday in Downtown Grand Rapids with #ShopSmallGR. This one-day event is intended to highlight the many small businesses housed along Monroe Center and South Division.

Downtown Grand Rapids contains a vibrant community of shops, from clothing to comics, accessories to art and more. Avenue for the Arts has partnered with GROW to fill empty storefronts along South Division between Wealthy and Cherry Streets with dozens of pop-up vendors. Together with the rest of the South Division and Monroe Center businesses, shoppers will find nearly 50 opportunities to explore unique and eclectic retailers in the span of just a few blocks.

Holiday shoppers can take a break from their adventures to enjoy a bite to eat or a cup of coffee, (or something stronger), at one of Downtown GR’s many coffee shops and eateries, or even indulge in a mani/pedi and a new hairstyle at one of the local salons. Families and friends alike can make a day of exploring our diverse retail district and supporting local small businesses with #ShopSmallGR.
