Winners will be announced at the Local First Annual Meeting & LocalMotion Awards at the Goei Center on Tuesday, January 29th.

Grand Rapids, MI – Local First has announced this year’s nominees for the LocalMotion Awards. These awards are given to businesses and individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the local economy in West Michigan in 2012. Nominees were selected through an open call to the public. Any business that is locally owned, locally headquartered, and not publicly traded was eligible for nomination. Individuals eligible for an award must reside in West Michigan. Once nominations were closed, nominees were asked to complete an application and then an independent committee comprised of past winners and community sustainability leaders chose the winners. Over 130 nominations were made with 80 nominees completing the application process.

Presented by Eastern Floral, the winners will be announced at Local First’s Annual Meeting and Local Motion Awards held at the beautiful Goei Center on Tuesday, January 29th. The event will begin at 5:00pm with a reception catered by an array of Local First member food vendors (list below) and live music by the Wealthy Orphans. At 6:30pm Local First will present a brief update: The State of Local – 2013, Where West Michigan Stands in Building a Sustainable Economy. Immediately following, the winners of the LocalMotion Awards will be announced.

In attendance will be Local First members, local business leaders, community leaders, sustainability leaders, and those passionate about developing the local economy in West Michigan. This event is open to the public and all are welcome. Ticket can be purchased at LocalFirst.com or directly at the link below.
