The Grand Rapids Fire Department is accepting applications for its first annual Summer Youth Academy. This program will run Monday through Thursday, July 10-14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the GRFD Training Center. There will be a mandatory orientation meeting for those selected on Friday, July 7 and a formal graduation ceremony the last night of the Academy.
The department will be accepting 24 applicants, ages 16 to 21 for the Academy.
The City of Grand Rapids Human Resources Department has agreed to assist with refreshments and potential transportation needs for attendees. The Academy will cover a variety of subject matter, including:
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Fire Department Operations
- Advancing Hose Lines
- Water Supply
- Search and Rescue
- Technical Rescue
- First Aid
Applications are due Tuesday, May 30 by 4 p.m. and must be submitted to Paula Rule at firstname.lastname@example.org or at Fire Headquarters, 38 LaGrave Ave. SE.
