The Brain: The World Inside Your Head runs through January 7!
The Grand Rapids Public Museum’s newest exhibit, The Brain: The World Inside Your Head, takes explorers inside the human head to probe the geography of a giant brain in the midst of the brain’s constant electrical brainstorm as thoughts and sensations are generated. Walk through a setup of neurons in the human brain and partake in hands-on learning activities, video games, optical illusions and interactive displays that show how the brain functions and even malfunctions.
Accompanying this exhibit is The Life of the Mind, a collection that tells the story of mental health treatment from the late 18th century through today. Artifacts from the museum’s collection provide fascinating evidence about the progression of medical intervention for mental illness, from the radical (and often brutal) treatments of the 19th and 20th centuries to the more humane researched-based therapies of present day practice.
Take a family trip indoors this summer and blow your mind learning about the mind!
