Defining Your Work Style: Four Women, Four Ways

I would describe my style as classic, modern/fashionable, fun, happy and  colorful. A friend described me as “classic chic.” It’s quite simple for me — I always like to look my best and don’t ever mind being just a bit overdressed. It’s better than looking too casual.

I dress for the activities of the day. [I like to be] versatile and wear something to work that can double for an after-work event.

I shop for clothing I like and many times pieces are interchangeable.

My personal motto is, “Always look your best – you can never go wrong.”

I think my style is effortless simplicity. I love color and geometric patters, but anything in the animal realm or wildly busy I try to avoid. I also don’t wear a lot of jewelry. If anything, I want you to be taken in by my face, rather than my accessories. If I’m not in lounge attire, you will find me in a dress. I love the simplicity of putting on one thing and heading out the door. If it’s cold weather, I’m a leggings and comfy top kind of person.

Dresses are the most versatile thing in my closet because I can dress them up or down depending on the occasion.

When I’m at home, I’m definitely not winning any fashion awards. I dress for comfort and the weather. If I’m going out and about its usually athleti-leisure type dress or a dress.

I’m always on the hunt for dresses that accentuate my body type. Wrap dresses are my jam. Also, anything that is yellow. I’m also into cozy clothes that have sassy sayings on them (not across the butt). I also look at the price point. I’m into buying pieces of clothing that will have longevity to them, not just a seasonal fling.

For work,  I like to dress how I normally would, just stepped up a notch. I want to look professional and put together yet I still represent my own personal brand.

My goal is to be confident and comfortable in anything I wear to work.

I look for clothes that have fine details that take a simple outfit to the next level. For example, rather than a plain white shirt, I will get one with some ruffles. I also add accents with unique stitching and small jewelry. I look for clothes that are timeless and
made well.

My work style is based heavily on my personality. Engaging and always looking for the next chance to expand the opportunity infrastructure in the city. I want to feel comfortable and ready for any situation, and my outfits still come across as polished and deliberate.

When shopping, I look for clothes that fit well and that don’t have a lot of working parts. [I also look for things] that won’t require dry-cleaning after each wear.
