News from Local First:

Local First member Celebration! Cinema announced this year’s nominees for the Celebrated Service Awards. Local and non-local businesses known for their outstanding customer service in Grand Rapids, Benton Harbor, Portage, Lansing, Mt. Pleasant, and Muskegon comprise the pool of nominees. One winner from each community will be decided by an on-line vote. See the list of nominees and vote at: www.celebratedservice.com.

“We talk about locally owned businesses having superior service – this validates it,” said Local First Executive Director Elissa Hillary. “Businesses that understand the value of building the prosperity of our community from within also understand the value of each unique customer.”

As part of efforts to continuously improve their own customer service, Celebration! Cinema came up with the innovative idea of motivating their staff to recognize high quality customer service outside of work hours. Employees were given movie passes and asked to give them to people with whom they shared a particularly good customer service experience. Celebration! Cinema used the list of pass recipients to generate the list of nominees for Celebrated Service Award.

Celebration! Cinema produced a short video highlighting testimony from area people explaining what customer service means to them:

“What stands out is that locally owned businesses rose to the top of this award pool without that being a requirement. Every area business had a shot at being a nominee and 7 of the 10 from Grand Rapids ended up being local – 4 of those are Local First members!”

Winners will receive a $5,000 cash award, a VIP party, 10 movies passes a month for a year, free promotions in Celebration! Cinema Theaters and access to the many media partnerships Celebration! Cinema has in Michigan.
